The new C&T rules begin January 1, 2026.
 
After January 1, 2026, you will need to take the C&T course* before the end of your recertification cycle. Some licensees will need to take new exams. You must still meet your regular recertification requirement.

WHO NEEDS TO TEST?
Some license and category types will need to take new exams to meet the updated standards.

The C&T Course
What is the C&T course?
  • One recertification course that will cover topics (standards) missing from certain categories.
  • Check the Requirements charts to see what is covered.
When is the course available?
  • Licensees can take the course starting 01/01/2026.
Does the course count toward my credits?
  • Yes.
When do I need to take it by?

January 2023 Proposed statute changes presented at 2023 legislative session
April 2023 SB 5330 passed and signed
October 2023 Began rule change process
October 2025* Anticipated completion of rule change process.
Effective date January 1, 2026

December 31, 2030 All WA licensees expected to meet new requirements.
