Treatments complete

All spongy moth treatments for 2021 are complete. Three treatments were conducted in Cowlitz County at Silver Lake. Trapping will be conducted for three years to ensure that the treatments were successful.

Virtual open house recording

In order to ensure the safety of the community and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, WSDA held a virtual open house about the proposed spongy moth treatment. Attendees learned about: 
  • Asian and European spongy moth and the threat they pose to the environment
  • WSDA's proposed eradication plan for Cowlitz County in the spring of 2021
  • The product being used (Btk) and its impact on humans and other animals
  • How to stay informed and receive treatment updates if the plan is approved/finalized

2021 State Environment Policy Act (SEPA)

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE
 
The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA), Plant Protection Division issued a determination of non-significance (DNS) under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Rules (Chapter 197-11 WAC) for the Asian Spongy Moth Eradication Project in the Silver Lake, Cowlitz County, Washington State.  After review of a completed environmental checklist and other information on file with the agency, WSDA has determined this proposal will not have a probable significant adverse impact on the environment. A copy of the DNS and site-specific environmental checklist are available for review below.

2021 Environmental Assessment

The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture-Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) prepared a site-specific Environmental Assessment (EA) and a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was issued.

WSDA in cooperation with USDA-APHIS has proposed to treat one 634 acre site in Silver Lake, within the boundaries of T9-0N R1-0W S03 and T10-0N R1-0W S26, S27, S34, S35 within Cowlitz County Washington State.
