Adding a new site

Crop and livestock producers need to complete a new site application for each new site they would like to use to grow an organic crop or pasture livestock on. In order to provide sufficient time for review and inspection, new site applications should be submitted at least 3 ½ months prior to your expected harvest date.

Updating the crops grown on a certified site

A site application is only needed to bring new sites or additional acrege into certification. If your cropping plan for an existing site changes, you may provide updates by simply contacting us and notifying us of the change.

Adding a new processed or handled product

Handlers and processors need to complete either a new handled or new processed product application for each product they would like included on their organic certificate. Processed products are single or multi-ingredient products that are cut, mixed, cooked, brewed, or otherwise processed by your business. Handled products are any crops or products produced or processed by another operation that you are handling but not otherwise processing.

In order to provide sufficient time for review, new product applications should be submitted at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to your expected handling or processing date.

The new product application may prompt you to complete additional forms depending on the ingredients and labels used for the product. These additional forms are linked directly from within the application and available online in the table below. These additional forms are not applicable for all products and do not need to be completed unless noted within the application.

Updating labels for existing products

No forms are typically required to update labels for existing products. Simply contact us and provide a copy of the label. If the label will be used by more than one farm or business please be sure to include all relevant certification numbers with your submission. Please note, if you are packing into a private label that lists a certifier other than WSDA Organic Program; you will need to provide verification from the listed certifier that they have reviewed and approved the label. The Organic Label Approval Verification form, available above, may be used to provide this verification.

Updating your organic system plan

WSDA Organic Program uses a living organic system plan. With this living plan, each operation only needs to complete a full organic system plan once. After that, you may provide updates to individual sections at any time during the year.

* WSDA Organic Program is currently experiencing a surge in new handler applications due to the narrowing of exemptions allowed under the Strengthening Organic Enforcement Final Rule. WSDA is only accepting handler and processor applications from previously exempt handlers working with existing WSDA-certified businesses. Please contact us to see if you qualify before completing an organic system plan.

WSDA Organic Program is not accepting applications for livestock operations.

The renewal application may prompt you to complete additional update forms for items such as additional contacts or co-processors. These forms are linked directly in the new application packet and available below. These forms may also be used to provide updates about your business throughout the certification process.
