Sampling Equipment

• Step probe (core sample 12 inches deep by 7/8 inches wide)*
• Soil probe (core sample 12 inches deep by 7/8 inches wide)*
• Slide hammer*
• 2-inch by 6-inch soil core sampler for bulk density samples*
• 1-foot or 2-foot extension piece (optional)*
• 1-inch plated heavy duty replaceable tip
• 2-inch by 2-inch bulk density metal cores (5 per site; WSDA will provide)
• 2-inch bulk density core end caps (6 per site; WSDA will provide)
• Cooler with ice or freezer blocks
• Heavy duty garbage bags to line coolers

Sampling Supplies

• (2) 4-gallon plastic buckets with lids for compositing soil for the 0 to 6 inch samples and the 6 to 12 inch samples
• (2) plastic buckets to carry bulk density supplies and samples
• Gloves, non-powdered, disposable
• Gallon size zip top bags
• SoilTest bags (WSDA will provide)
• 15-mL falcon tubes (WSDA will provide)

Field Tools

• Sharp shooter or drain spade
• Garden trowel
• Paring knife
• Universal slip wrench
• Screwdriver
• Adjustable wrench
• Ejection spoons or butter knives

Recording and Reference Supplies

• Pens/permanent markers
• Clipboard
• WSDA SOP (WSDA will provide)
• SoilTest chain of custody (WSDA will provide)
• Pre-printed labels (WSDA will provide)
• WSDA field forms (WSDA will provide)

Field Decontamination Equipment

• (2) spray bottles with 70% ethanol
• (6-10) cloth rags

Field Gear/Safety Equipment

• Gloves for hand protection
• Cell phone/Car charger
• Sunscreen and sun protection
• Face masks in case of wildfire smoke or excessive dust (Washington State Department of Health face mask guidance [PDF, 0.6 MB])
