Senior Nutrition Resources

What do you need today?

Senior Nutrition Resources

The goal of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is to improve the health of elderly people, at least 60 years of age, by supplementing their diets with nutritious United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) foods. WSDA Food Assistance further supports older adults with information about what their bodies need nutritionally. Below is a compilation of senior specific nutrition resources.

Senior Nutrition Newsletter

A requirement of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is that Lead Agencies provide nutrition education to their participants. The nutrition education must include:

  • The nutritional value of CSFP foods, and how they meet dietary needs of seniors.

  • Nutritious ways to use CSFP foods.

  • The importance of healthcare.

  • The role nutrition plays in maintaining good health.

Check out USDA's Nutrition in the CSFP Food Package factsheet to learn more about the benefits of CSFP food packages and tips on including CSFP foods in healthy meals and snacks.

WSDA Food Assistance creates a quarterly Senior Nutrition Newsletter to provide hunger relief agencies with resources for their CSFP participants. This material was funded by USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - SNAP. This institution is an equal opportunity employer. See recent past issues below:
