Spanish Private Applicator Course

This course offers assistance to those applying for a Private Applicator Pesticide license. This pre-license course includes several hours (up to 20 hours) of instruction over a five-day period. Classes are only offered in Spanish. The Private Applicator exam is offered at the end of the training. 

Course Information:


ONLINE TRAINING SESSION: 
This online pre-license course is designed to help people prepare to take the exam to obtain the Private Applicator Pesticide License issued by the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA). A testing session to take the Private Applicator exam is offered at the end of class for $70 dollars in a money order or cashier check payable to the WSDA.

TESTING FEES
  • Class costs can vary per location.
  • $25 Testing Fee
  • $45 License Fee (a total of $70/person) 
  • No cash accepted, only check, money order or cashier’s check is accepted.


MATERIALS NEEDED 

Participants must obtain and study the Spanish Private Applicator Manual (EM020S) prior to the course. The manual ($21 + tax) is available from WSU Extension offices or can be ordered by calling (800) 723-1763 or from the WSU Extension Online Store.

Class size: This webinar can be taken as individual or as a group. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, group size has been reduced.
Length: 20-hour
Time: 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Language: Spanish only (for English pre-license courses, visit WSU Pesticide Program
Format: Live Webinar using MS Teams. The course is comprised of several lessons that will be covered in five classes:
  • Day 1: Federal and Washington pesticide laws
  • Day 2: The pesticide label, and pesticide formulations
  • Day 3: Personal protective equipment and using pesticides safely.
  • Day 4: Pesticides and the environment, introduction to pest and pest management, management of insects and mites, plat diseases and weed management.  
  • Day 5: Pesticide application equipment and calibratiom, conversions and calculations, vertebrate pest management. 
A training facilitator is required for individuals participating in a group. The live webinar can be taken as an individual or as a group. Group participation requires the assistance of a group facilitator. Employers are responsible for selecting group facilitators. The role of the facilitator is to navigate the online platform and facilitate the training for their respective group, outlined below are some requirements for group facilitators whom will be facilitating virtual the virtual course:
  1. Ability to communicate with participants
  2. Basic computer skills and electronic equipment operation.
  3. Ability to troubleshoot equipment or communicate with employer and get timely assistance.
  4. Ability to execute MS Teams functions as the facilitator for their group (mute, unmute mic, rise virtual hand, etc.). Group facilitators will received training from WSDA staff on how to execute MS Teams functions the first day of the class.
