Washington Bee Atlas Events

What do you need today?

Upcoming events for volunteers

For safety reasons, Washington Bee Atlas events are only open to official Washington Bee Atlas volunteers and Master Melittologists volunteers. If you are not currently active with either program and live in Washington, we invite you to learn how to become a Washington Bee Atlas volunteer

Before attending an event, volunteers must have passed a background check and should complete at least modules 1-3 of the OSU Master Melittologist training.

Any volunteer can host an event! Full details and an event flyer must be received at least THREE WEEKS before the planned event to allow time to post and advertise the event. Contact Caleb Lankford if you would like to host a volunteer event. There are three types of events that we currently offer.

Event type Event description Who can organize?
Microscope (M) Learn how to use a microscope and get an introduction into native bee identification. Suitable for Newbees. Microscope instructors
Training (T) Learn how to use a net to collect native bees, create labels, and record iNaturalist records. Events may include insect pinning demonstrations, but not always. Suitable for Newbees and fully trained volunteers. Anyone, but an approved Field instructor must attend.
Collecting (C) Join other previously volunteers to collect native bees at a designated location. Volunteers must have already attended at least one Training event. If you have not yet completed the requirements to get your Volunteer Card, you must collect with someone who has a Volunteer Card.  Any volunteer

The events below are scheduled in advance to allow volunteers to plan to attend. Please keep in mind that events may need to be canceled due to poor weather or other unforseen circumstances.
