Bonded Public Livestock Market License

The license ensures the orderly marketing of livestock and the financial stability of public markets, and protects persons who consign livestock to markets and sales.

Those who wish to operate a public livestock market must have a license.
  How much will it cost?
Fee for initial application is $2,000. Renewal fee is $165 to $495, based on the average gross sales volume.

You need to include the license fee and the information listed in the application form.
  Is the decision to approve my license dependent on anything besides the information in my application?
Yes, prior to issuing the initial license, the agency must conduct a public hearing and consider evidence and testimony related to:
- The benefits to the livestock industry from the proposed new public livestock market;
- The geographical area affected;
- Conflict, if any, with sales days already allocated in the area;
- The amount and class of livestock available for marketing in the area;
- Buyers available to the proposed market;
- Other conditions affecting the orderly marketing of livestock.
  When will I receive my license?
The license will be issued within 30 business days upon the $2000.00 fee being paid and the application requirements completed and reviewed by the department.
  How long is my license valid?
The license expires on March 1st of each year.
  What is the appeal process?
Upon notice by the department to deny, revoke, or suspend a license, a person may request a hearing under chapter 34.05 RCW.
