Farm-Direct Meat Buying Guides

Marketing Toolkit for Farm-Raised Meat Producers

Consumers have several points of confusion when buying meat in bulk, directly from the farmer or rancher.

Often, they don't know:

  • how much meat to expect
  • how to cook the variety of cuts they'll receive
  • how much freezer space they'll need
  • how the whole process works -- of purchasing a "share" of a live animal and then working with a custom-exempt butcher shop.

In collaboration with the Good Meat Project, WSDA has developed this marketing "toolkit" for farmers and ranchers.  The handouts in this toolkit are meant to be shared with potential customers, to help alleviate common misunderstandings that often turn customers away from sourcing their meat directly from the farmer or rancher.

There are two versions of each printable handout:  a standard version, OR a version that allows the farm to type in their contact information (name, website, etc.).
