C&T Requirements Based on License Type

The updated certification and training (C&T) standards require almost all licensees to meet specific criteria to maintain their license, based on their license type and categories. Review the requirements based on license type below. Make sure to also review the requirements based on category.

The new C&T rules will be effective January 1, 2026. You will have until the end of your recertification cycle at that time to meet the new requirements.

*C&T specific course that covers the competencies our current categories are missing to meet federal standards. The C&T course credits will count toward your 5-year recertification credit requirement. Licensees can choose to take a C&T quiz to fulfill the C&T course requirement.

Commercial Applicator

Commercial Operator

C&T course* will add the category to your license.

Limited Private Applicator (LPA)

Note: only weed credits assigned to the C&T course will count toward your regular credit requirement.

Private Applicator

Use space fumigants Pass new space fumigation exam Private Applicator will no longer allow space fumigations without new Space Fumigation category. Review the Space Fumigation webinar for more information. 
Make aerial pesticide applications (fixed-wing, helicopter, UAV, etc.) Pass new aerial pest control exam      New Aerial Pest Control category will be added. Review Aerial Category webinar for more information. 

Private Commercial Applicator

Structural Pest Inspector (SPI) with SPI Category

Keep your license                                                                                  Do nothing                                                          The C&T changes are not applicable to the SPI license used for home inspections.
