Strawberries are a member of the rose family and cultivated worldwide. Western Washington has a long history as a strawberry growing region, historically for the processing market. With the increase in consumer demands, more strawberries are grown for its fresh market nowadays. There are more than 600 varieties of strawberries, each with their own size shape and color. Strawberries are the only fruit with seeds on the outside. The average strawberry has 200 seeds.
Sweet, juicy berries are treats when right off the plant, and you can find many U-Pick farms in Washington or find the freshly picked pints and flats at the farmers market near you during the harvest months.
