Cannabis Lab Analysis Standards Program
Laboratories, please direct all email inquiries to cannabis@agr.wa.gov
In 2022, the Washington State Legislature passed House Bill 1859, directing WSDA to lead an interagency team to develop laboratory quality standards in order to further protect and inform cannabis consumers. WSDA has worked with the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) to establish and maintain protocols and provide technical assistance to cannabis laboratories.
Laboratories must be audited and accredited by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. They must fill out the Laboratory Accreditation Application form and submit a check to the department.
The team has drafted rules establishing laboratory standards and have adopted several testing methods based on the recommendations of the Cannabis Science Task Force, a task force established in 2019 to direct the work of government agencies transitioning standards and accreditation for cannabis laboratories. These methods had been modified from their original form to focus specifically on cannabis and cannabis products and will be used by laboratories to assure consistent and accurate results. Laboratories may also submit their own methods for approval, methods approved by the WSDA CLASP team will be added below.
Laboratories certified to test cannabis in the State of Washington must use a method approved by the WSDA. You can use one of the pre-approved methods listed below, or submit your own method using the Method Approval Form. The following methods have been approved for use:
