The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) has served as the lead state agency for eradication of the invasive weed species Spartina since 1995. WSDA facilitates the cooperation of local, state, federal, and tribal governments; universities; interested groups; and private landowners responsible for the tremendous success of the program. From a statewide high of over 9,000 solid acres infested in 2003, the program has reduced Spartina to a projected five solid acres in 2013. These final, five solid acres are a collection of individual plants and small clumps spread along thousands of miles of shoreline in the Puget Sound, Willapa Bay, and Grays Harbor.
WSDA completes a progress report annually on this program. See the reports below for additional information.
