Radiological Emergency Information

For more information, e-mail or call (360) 725-5509.

WSDA works with state and federal officials to prevent the sale or consumption of contaminated food products or crops. Our emergency response procedures are similar whether the  contamination involves a bacteria, virus, toxin or radioactive substance.

If agricultural land is contaminated, WSDA analyzes the situation and provides advice to county emergency officials regarding an agricultural advisory. The advisory gives farmers notice of a potential problem and what actions they can take to minimize risks. Farmers may be asked to take actions to protect employees, crops, feed for animals or water supplies.

WSDA also has authority to set-up a food control area. The purpose of a food control area is to prevent consumption of potentially adulterated fresh food and milk products from the area. It also prevents potentially adulterated food products from being moved into the marketplace.
