Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

  • 2001 Report to the Legislature

    Overview

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is defined by chapter 17.15 RCW as a coordinated decision-making and action process that uses the most appropriate pest control methods and strategy in an environmentally and economically sound manner to meet agency programmatic pest management objectives.

Pest managers use IPM daily to prevent damage from pests.  The key tenets of IPM include the following:  setting thresholds for pest populations, monitoring for pests, prevention of pest establishment, and control of pests.  These principles are used by pest managers to use the safest and most effective tools to prevent damage from pest species.
