Trade Barrier Assistance

For more information, e-mail us or call (360) 902-1915.

Export Documentation

Export transactions require many detailed documents.  For food products, the importing country often requires special documents concerning the origin, safety, sanitation, etc. of the product.  Some of these can be submitted by the company but others must be signed by a government official.  WSDA marketing staff can assist companies to identify the appropriate officials and office for obtaining these documents.

Market Access Problems and Trade Barrier Assistance

Many key markets are protected by import rules or procedures that discourage the import of Washington’s food and agriculture products. WSDA works with Washington’s food and agriculture industry, the Governor’s Office, the USDA and the US Trade Representative to raise awareness of barriers that harm our industries and encourage their resolution.

WSDA also helps companies to comply with foreign requirements and to resolve transactional issues. Most of these deal with the necessity for various documents and certificates and what is acceptable to the importing country. For assistance, contact the WSDA staff person assigned to the country or product you are exporting. For more information about the requirements of each country, see the USDA’s Food and Agricultural Import Regulations and Standards (FAIRS) reports.
