Over the past two years, the WSDA Avian Health Program educating producers about Avian Influenza and proper poultry practices to decrease avian diseases, as well as on-going Avian Influenza surveillance around Washington State.

Ongoing AI surveillance occurs at:
  • Livestock markets/auctions
  • County and community fairs and bird shows
  • Farmer's markets /small producers
  • Backyard flocks
  • Game bird production facilities
  • National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) participants/commercial operations
  • Sick bird calls

So far in 2011, the WSDA Avian Health Program has taken 5,1052 samples for AI testing.
