Animal Health

The WSDA Animal Health Program is dedicated to the protection, promotion and enhancement of animal health, wellness and well being by working within the state, nationally and internationally to minimize the exposure of the people of Washington State and their animals to harmful animal diseases.  Furthermore, the program oversees livestock and poultry disease control, issues interstate health certificates, issues permits and regulates restricted feed lots and rendering plants.

Animal Identification

The WSDA Animal Identification Program is dedicated to assisting in the containment of animal diseases in Washington State, educating the state livestock industry to improve voluntary participation in the Washington State Identification System (WSAIS) and the National Animal Identification System (NAIS), and tracking livestock movements in Washington State.

Avian Health

The WSDA Animal Health Program is dedicated to providing information to increase awareness about poultry, poultry diseases, and how to keep birds healthy.  The main goals of the program are to educate the poultry industry and owners in Washington State about: serious poultry diseases, such as Avian Influenza and Exotic Newcastle Disease and protecting their birds from diseases (bio-security).  Furthermore, through increased surveillance the Avian Health Program hopes to establish a first line of defense through disease testing and monitoring programs at saleyards, county & community fairs, backyard flocks, farmer's markets, game bird producers, and commercial poultry operations.

Livestock Brand Inspection

The Livestock Identification Program records brands and monitors the movement of livestock through inspections and documentation to establish the right of ownership and possession.  Furthermore, the program records and inspects livestock brands and licenses certified feed lots and public livestock markets.
