John Daly was named Acting Deputy Director of the Washington
State Department of Agriculture effective May 16, 2008.
As Acting Deputy Director, John oversees WSDA's six divisions,
which carry out activities related to:
Agricultural commodity inspection
Pesticide, animal feed and fertilizers
Food safety and consumer services
Protection against plant pests and diseases
Animal health and other livestock services
Agency administration
John is responsible for ensuring WSDA programs work together
to enhance the position of agriculture in Washington. He is
the agency's chief operating officer and also leads WSDA's
initiative on Government Management Accountability and
Performance (GMAP).
John began his career at WSDA in 1974 in pesticide compliance.
He later joined the WSDA Director's Office as a policy
assistant and went on to serve as assistant director of three
different divisions of the agency. In 1993, John previously
served as Acting Deputy Director.
John left WSDA in 1996 to work for the state Department of
Natural Resources as deputy for operations and later as deputy
for resource protection. He retired in 2001.
Since retiring, John has worked part-time for WSDA on special
and organizational projects, as a federal/state liaison, and
most recently as legislative liaison during the past two
legislative sessions.
